RAJSHAHI, December 2, 2024 (BSS) – Social watchdogs at a human chain here today opined that taking strict action against unscrupulous businessmen could be the crucial means to control the surge in essential commodities.
They also mentioned that the prevalence of dishonest and greedy businessmen is gradually increasing, so there is no other option but to take legal action against them for the welfare of the consumers at large.
The District Committee of Consumers’ Association of Bangladesh (CAB) organized the meeting at Shaheb Bazar Zero Point and raised eight-point demands to control the price hike of essential commodities.
Secretary General of the CAB Unit Golam Mostofa Mamun, Prof. Abdus Salam Al Madani from the Arabic Department of Rajshahi University, CAB members – including Mustafizur Rahman Khan, Liakat Ali, Amlan Aniruddha, Zulfikar Ali, Subrata Hembrom, Rubel Sarker and Rawshan Islam others addressed the meeting.
Golam Mostofa Mamun said in his speech that the fascist and autocratic government has been overthrown by the massive uprising of students and people, but the corrupt businessmen and greedy market syndicate have not fallen and still remain in the markets.
As a result of the unscrupulous cycle, several essential commodities, including potatoes, onions and soybean oil, are beyond the purchasing power of the common people. So drastic measures should be taken against them urgently.
